FAQ’s
How often do I need to inject myself? Once a week, pick a day that works best for you.
Can I reuse a needle? Never- always use a new needle for each injection
How do I dispose of the needles? Ask the pharmacy or Lilly for a sharps needle box. Find a hard plastic container ( liquid detergent container), and cover the syringes with foil wrap.
How do I store the medicine? In the box, in the refrigerator. It should be exposed to light.
What time of day is best to inject? There is no perfect time, many people prefer nights, so they sleep through any side effects.
Should I eat before injecting? A small meal is preferable.
What if I go on vacation? Bring it in an iced container. You may need a letter to justify the ice pack and syringes, which can be provided by CWM.
Is it ok to dose a day earlier or later if I need to go out of town? Not ideal, but yes.
What are the side effects? Stomach upset, constipation, diarrhea, headache, fatigue, dizziness. They typically resolve in the week after the first dose. Minimize side effects by having a small meal before injection, staying hydrated, resting, and using OTC meds like Tylenol for a headache. Magnesium oxide and citrate are helpful supplements for constipation .
What if I get bruising or a rash at the injection site? Draw up your medicine in the syringe and leave it covered, but out at room temperature for 2 hours before using it. Try a different site- the legs if using the abdomen, or vice versa. You can try to take a Claritin 12 hours before your shot. You can use topical Benadryl on your injection site, approximately 2 hours before injection, and then clean the area with alcohol before injecting.
Can I stop it, or do I need to wean off of it? You can stop it anytime.
What if the dose accidentally squirts on my skin, or isn’t injected? It is considered lost and you will need a new dose.
What if it was delivered and left outside, while I was not home? If it has been < 24 hours at <90 degrees, it is still considered usable.
